Film Festivals

I recently attended a screening of a film for the San Francisco Film Festival. It is an Argentinian film called "La Ventana" (the window). It was a wonderful movie, simple yet powerful. I encourage people to attend film festivals in their city, it is a great way to see movies that you would not normally see, a great way to experience and be exposed to their cultures and different ways of film-making. I have always tried to attend at least 3-4 films during the film festival. It gives me a chance to see what other film directors are doing, what other actors and writers are doing. The movies are always great for discussions, for debate and for good old fashioned entertainment. It also gives you a chance to talk to the people involved with the film. The director of "La Ventana" Carlos Sorin was at the screening and he answered questions about the film afterward. I was also lucky enough to get tickets to a special event honoring Francis Ford Coppola. It was a treat for me, since he is one of my directing gods and one of the reasons I became a director. He spoke about his career and George Lucas was there, as well, basically saying without Francis he wouldn't be where he is today...So I encourage you to take some time outta your busy schedules and get some culture and exposure, you will not regret it!
